Situated in the vibrant heart of Melaka at 31, Jalan Inang 2, Hailam Kopitiam Cheng Melaka offers an authentic taste of Hainanese cuisine that both locals and visitors can appreciate. This restaurant specializes in Halal Hainan-style dishes, delivering the comforting flavors and nostalgic aromas that make this culinary tradition so beloved.
Step inside and you’ll find a warm, inviting dining atmosphere that perfectly complements the rich heritage reflected in the menu. Although the ambience carries the charm of a traditional kopitiam, diners have noted a modern touch in its cleanliness and layout, making it a comfortable spot for casual meals. The service is attentive, though some guests mention the pace can occasionally slow down during busy hours, something the kitchen is earnestly working to improve.
The menu is a vibrant celebration of Malaysian-Hainanese fare carefully crafted to delight your palate. Among the standout dishes is the Nasi Lemak Original with Egg & Sambal, where fragrant coconut-infused rice is served alongside a perfectly boiled egg and a spicy-sweet sambal that bursts with intense flavor. For those seeking a heartier option, the Nasi Lemak Special with Rendang Chicken elevates the experience with tender, slow-cooked rendang chicken that melts in your mouth, pairing gorgeously with the creamy rice and sambal.
Seafood lovers and spice enthusiasts alike will find joy in the Tomyam Mee Hoon, a captivating bowl of spicy and tangy noodle soup brimming with shrimp, mushrooms, and fresh herbs. The balance of heat and freshness in this dish reflects the culinary finesse of the kitchen and leaves a lingering warmth that invites another spoonful.
The Hailam Boneless Chicken Thai Sauce with Rice showcases tender, boneless chicken drenched in a zesty Thai-inspired sauce, highlighting a beautiful marriage of textures and vibrant flavors served alongside fluffy jasmine rice. Meanwhile, noodle aficionados will appreciate the Prawn Mee Soup, a soulful dish featuring tender noodles bathed in a rich, aromatic prawn broth garnished with fresh vegetables — a truly comforting and indulgent choice.
Customers have praised the quality of the kopi, which captures the classic rich and robust essence of traditional Malaysian coffee. While some feedback has pointed out that the toasted bread tends to favor Gardenia brand over the fluffier, more characteristic Hainanese bread, the strong flavors of the coffees and savory dishes successfully transport diners to the heart of authentic Hainanese dining.
Although a few visitors feel the pricing is slightly on the premium side and hope the restaurant continues to thrive, the consensus is that Hailam Kopitiam Cheng Melaka remains a noteworthy destination for those craving genuine halal Hainanese cuisine in Melaka. Whether you're stopping by for a leisurely brunch or a satisfying dinner, the thoughtful composition of their dishes and welcoming ambiance promises a memorable culinary journey that awakens the senses and celebrates tradition with every bite.
For an authentic taste experience paired with warm hospitality, Hailam Kopitiam Cheng Melaka is indeed a compelling choice. Don’t miss the chance to savor their signature rendang, tomyam mee hoon, and, of course, a cup of their flavorful kopi to round off your meal.

This place has a large variety of food with very generous portions and reasonable prices. I was also impressed with how clean the toilets are. There're a lot of parking spaces but keep in mind that they require coupon based payment except on Mondays and Tuesdays.

i am glad to see new eateries nearby Cheng area. I didn't experience the "lalat" issue. The ambience was good. Food tastes average, not too bad. The drawbacks are food served kinda slow and too PRICEY. Hopefully they can survive long.
